Namura Technologies Member of the Week: Beau Engel

Member of the Week: Beau Engel

Written By: Jackie Riess

Beau Engel began racing motocross nearly two years ago on his KTM 50 SX Mini. Beau now competes in the 50cc Premix 7-8 and Open 4-8 classes, and enjoys hitting doubles and mastering the whoops. Inspired by Danger Boy Deegan, his father, and his personal passion for riding dirt bikes, Beau has goals of racing at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, as well as the professional stage, in the future.

Motocross is not Beau’s only choice of motorsport, as in the winter months he competes in the National Snocross Series. Between these sports, Beau has learned how to set goals, learn from mistakes, and try his hardest not only on the track, but in life. On the night before race day, Beau falls asleep to Nitro Circus, and in the morning, he begins his day with protein pancakes, trail mix, and chats with his friends. If his day of racing goes well at Spring Creek, he and his friends celebrate with a round of Moto Misties.

With tips from his coach, Mike Evenson, Beau has been working on passing and corner speed so he can continue to work on jumping. This coaching has been influential on his riding, and Beau encourages other D23 ARMCA members to “ride hard, think positive, believe in yourself, and stay humble.”

London Crossing Single Track Project Announcement

WE NEED YOUR HELP EXPRESSING SUPPORT TO LAKE COUNTY FOR THE CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT

The hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 2022. Please simply email Lake County to let them know that you are in support of the London Crossing single track trails system.
email address: tanya.feldkamp@co.lake.mn.us

Mrs. Feldkamp is the environmental services manager for Lake County. Please have your emails in by July 15th.

What is London Crossing single track project?
The red star on the map is the Alger Grade OHM system.
The blue start on the map is the London Crossing project.
The line is part of the Wild Country ATV trail.
The London Crossing system is 5-ish miles from the end of trail 10 on the WC ATV trail. Bjorn and I walked, tied ribbons and mapped out approximately 25 miles of trail last fall and winter. 25 miles is the maximum length.
The system will have an 8 mile central loop with all blue level difficulty. There will be multiple loops off of the central trail that will have blue/black/2x black with alternate loops.
The character of the trail compared to that of Alger Grade will be that London has a fair bit of open hardwood areas for flowy-er trail. London also has a much greater rate of change in elevation. There are rolling hills, steep rocky areas, hills and ledges. In general it will have both easier and harder trails than Alger Grade.
Adding the London trail is a big deal for single track opportunities and Lake County. These 2 single track trail systems added together and including the ATV trail will put us well over 40 miles. 40 miles of technical single track is more than enough for any rider for a weekend ride if that rider isn't named Graham Jarvis or Cody Webb. That means the two systems can be a destination asset for Lake Co. for riders from much further away than Alger Grade alone would be.
(The white on the map are old logging roads. Except the very straight line which is a snafu of my mapping app.)

Namura Technologies Member of the Week: Mike Little

Member of the Week: Mike Little

Written By: Jackie Riess

Mike Little began riding dirt bikes in 1986. In 1987, he joined D23 ARMCA and has been racing ever since. Mike now competes in the 40+ A and 45+ A classes in motocross, and continues racing in D23 ARMCA because of the quality family time and overall family atmosphere. Mike is proud to have his kids involved in the sport, and values the time they spend together at the races, a goal that will stay with him for years to come.

Inspired by his kids' enjoyment of the sport, Mike relates this to his childhood riding, and channels their energy in his riding today. Motorcycling has not only given Mike quality family time, but it has also given him the ability to travel the country. During his four year stint as James Povolny’s mechanic, Mike saw many places across the country that he otherwise wouldn’t have seen. Once advised by Dr. Dennis Medsker to “just be yourself, it’s always enough,” Mike encourages other D23 ARMCA members to have fun, mentor younger riders, and always leave things better than you found them.
