Member of the Week: Ryder Negen

What discipline(s) do you participate in? 

Motocross – 85cc 7-11, 65cc 7-11, girls jr 9-12

When did you begin riding and/or racing? 

4 years old

What's one thing you love about the District 23 ARMCA community?

I love everything about racing! All the tracks we race at, the staff are always so nice and helpful! Plus the family-friendly atmosphere.

What is the significance of your riding number? Was it given to you or did you pick it for a specific reason?

It’s my birthday!

What is your favorite track, course, trail, or event and why? 

I love the Cambridge track. It’s a fun track to ride, big and little track!

What is the greatest accomplishment of your riding/​racing career? 

Making it around Grantsburg for my first race ever on my 85.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years within the sport?

I see myself racing and getting better and bringing home lots of hardware!

If you had to describe your riding style as a movie title, what would it be?

Finding Nemo… just keep swimming, just keep swimming

If you could race at any track in the world, where would it be and why?

Loretta Lynn’s—I would love to qualify one day!

Who inspires you in racing or riding? And how has motorcycling impacted your life?

My grandpa and grandma… they both raced so it’s in my blood!

What has been your favorite machine to race/​ride and why?

My Gas Gas 85, it’s really built my confidence up.

What's one pre-race ritual or superstition you have?

Eating a candy bar before racing.

What's the funniest or most unexpected thing that's happened to you at a race?

My bike stalled right before the finish line one time!

What's a lesson you've learned from racing that applies to life outside the track?

Confidence, resilience, and not everything comes easy.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new rider, what would it be?

Never give up and race your own race!
