Chairman's Corner

Chairman’s Corner

Written by: Rex Greenwald

Believe it or not, the start of the 2022 season is upon us!  I hope you are excited for motorcycling in Minnesota – I know I can hardly wait.

It is an honor to be the new chairperson of D23 ARMCA and, along with all D23 leadership, serve all riders, competitive and recreational alike, in all disciplines of motorcycling and ATV riding for D23 ARMCA in the State of Minnesota.  I look forward to seeing and speaking with each of you at upcoming banquets and events.

Over fifty years ago, D23 ARMCA became District 23 of the American Motorcycle Association (AMA). Today D23 ARMCA is thriving and highly successful and is recognized as one of the top districts in the AMA.  Congratulations and thank you to our members, clubs, promoters and sponsors – you are the most important part of D23 ARMCA.

With everything going on in the world, we came out of 2021 in great shape!  At the December Sanctioning Meeting, the clubs and promotors put together a full schedule of events for all of you to recreate and enjoy and 2022 should be a great year with many, varied experiences being offered throughout the state for all skill levels and in all disciplines.

I close with a sincere thank you to Mike Quinn Sr., who for the past 20+ years served as the Chairman and supporter of D23 ARMCA.  Mike will continue to support D23 in varied leadership roles, as well as continuing efforts to grow D23’s recreational Road riding. Mike, thank you so much for all you have done for the sport of motorcycling in Minnesota, it is truly unmeasurable!

D23 ARMCA is the voice of Motorcycling in Minnesota!

-Rex, D23 Chair

Ella Storlie started riding dirt bikes at 10 years old. A year later, she joined District 23 ARMCA and competed in several events here in Minnesota. She now competes in the Open C and Women’s classes in motocross, where she placed in the top ten overall in both classes in 2021! 2021 also brought Ella to her first Women’s class win, which was an exciting accomplishment for her racing career. In 2022, Ella has goals of finishing in the top three overall in the Women’s class here in District 23 ARMCA.

Ella enjoys motorcycling with her sister and father, where they all continue to learn and grow in motorcycling. In addition to good times with her family, Ella also enjoys time spent riding and camping with friends at local motocross tracks. These experiences have not only brought joy to her life, but have also pushed her to face her fears. Motorcycling is her favorite way to spend a weekend.

In addition to riding her dirt bike, Ella enjoys playing basketball and volleyball, competing in track and field, camping, and hanging out with her friends. She also enjoys a good night’s sleep after she fills her belly with dad’s famous steak and potatoes the night before a race. A couple taps on the helmet, and she’s ready for the gate to drop. She focuses on standing and searching for smooth lines once she’s on the track.

Ella encourages riders of all skill levels to come race with us in District 23 ARMCA! She also would like to thank the track workers, family, and friends that make racing possible not only for her, but for all of us here in Minnesota.

Member of the Week: Camryn Quast

Written By: Jackie Riess

Camryn Quast is the 2021 Quad MX 90cc Semi-Stock Champion! He began riding at home in 2018 and became interested in racing quite quickly. Both he and his father knew nothing about racing at the time, and found District 23 ARMCA in the spring of 2019. Camryn went on to win the 50cc Semi-Stock championship in 2020, and continued his winning ways in 2021. He enjoys the camaraderie among his competitors, and the respect they have for each other on and off the track. This is what keeps him coming back to D23 ARMCA, and his goals for 2022 include clinching another championship in the 90cc Semi-Stock class. Inspired by Pro ATVMX racer Joel Hetrick, Camryn strives to compete in ATVMX at the national level.

Racing has given Camryn true pride in his work. Where traditional sports like football and wrestling fell short, Camryn feels the thrill and excitement of racing give him confidence for his hard work. Taking to advice he’s been given, he has focused on his starts to improve his race craft. And though he feels excitement on the track, a moment of silence on the starting gate helps Camryn to focus on the most important part of his race. When the racing is finished, Camryn enjoys his dad’s famous brisket street tacos and garage time with dad in preparation for the next race. In addition to honing in his start skills, Camryn has been working hard to ride smart and within his means. Something he advises other D23 ARMCA members to focus on to help keep them safe on the track.
