Track Standards D23 - 2001

Recommendations for MX Tracks to participate in D23 Points

After a complete summer of meetings, the Track Standards Advisory Committee has adopted the following recommended standards for the 2001 racing season. These are the standards that all Dist.23 MX tracks will be asked to comply with for next year. This was not done with the intention of closing tracks, but with the encouragement to all tracks to meet these goals for 2001. With the large rider turnouts, this has been a very hotly debated issue all summer. With the adoption of these standards, Minnesota has again been a guiding force within the AMA. My thanks to the entire Dist.23 rider population for their input on this subject.

Parking:

• Recommended pit parking area shall be twenty (20) acres. Track/parking area shall accommodate all those who wish to attend.

• Track entrance shall have two (2) lanes after turning off main roadway with 2 attendants in each lane for receiving gate fee and release form signatures (total of 4).

• Parking shall be a dedicated parking area (i.e. parking lot with tar or gravel) or grass area, which is mowed.

Sign up:

• Promoter shall provide a minimum of three (3) sign-up lanes.

• Promoter shall have a separate area (different from sign up lanes) for AMA and district 23 sign up.

• It is recommended that the promoter have computer(s) loaded with a scoring software for rider and race information, and sign up. Results shall be sent to the district office as an electronic file.

Track:

• To comply with AMA standards of adequate dust control, each track shall have a complete, workable watering system with pumps, hoses and personnel to water track before and during event.

• Track shall be completely separated from spectators by a fence system and shall have adequate run-off between track and fence. Spectator area shall be mowed.

• Track minimum width shall be twenty (20) feet.

• Track sections shall be clearly identified by number.

• Designated flaggers at track sections out of view of medical personnel shall have radio communication with medical or track official.

• Each flagger location shall be equipped with chair and flag holder with yellow and ambulance flags.

• Track shall incorporate a communication system throughout the pit and spectator areas. This system shall be either an intercom system with speakers or an FM signal for radio listening.

• The track shall have a minimum 36-rider starting gate system. Gate system shall be a backward falling system and be fully operational. It is recommended that the gate system be easily upgradeable to handle 40 riders.

• Track shall have adequate staging space behind starting gate area to accommodate double drops and the next moto class.

• Track shall have adequate staging area to accommodate a minimum of 50 bikes/racers waiting for their moto in addition to staging area.

• Track starting area (gate to first turn) shall be wide enough to accommodate 40 riders funneling down to first turn.

• Track shall have fully operational maintenance equipment (dozer, tractor, bobcat, etc.) at track side during event.
