I believe Dual Sport rides would succeed, and trail ride participation would greatly increase, if they were marketed to their most logical user group - non competition riders. At present, both these rides are marketed primarily to competition riders, relying mostly on word-of-mouth to reach non-ARMCA riders. I think there is a very good way to reach the non-competition rider population. That is via a list of persons with Minnesota state registered dirt bikes. I presently have a disk with that mailing list, of riders registered as of September, 1998. This list was purchased by ARMCA for the recent mailng on the DNR funding initiative for OHM trails. The list contains about 2300 names. Some of these are ARMCA members of course, but there should be a way to filter these out of a mailing list built to promote non-competition rides. I'm confident that ARMCA would make that list available (or sell it) to anyone who wanted to stage an ARMCA sponsored Dual Sport or trail ride. Possible cost of the list would have to be determined by the ARMCA board. Another benefit of targeting this group for our non-competition rides is that it will help us build a membership base of non-competition riders, which is critical to our long term prospects for development of public trails. I'm hoping this will increse the interest in promoting non-competition rides. Regards, Don Youngdahl Questions or Comments: Email Don Youngdahl
