Chip's Corner D23

Welcome Back! To the end of an era!

Here we are at the start of the 1999 season. The last racing in this decade. Just think about that. We've came from CZ, Maico, and Combat Wombat to the high tech gear we have today.

Dist.23 has been around for 30 years. We've made some real advances in our membership, but sometimes I still miss the old days of pointskeepers at the track. The long signup lines, and rubber band gates. Do you remember Butternut Valley race track? Then you know what I mean.

But on the other side of the coin we've advanced to a central pointskeeper system that's on line. Our organization has been intelligent enough to advance with the times. In this coming year we will include computer tips from time to time to help our new online members out. Also we will give you useful rider and bike preps from various motorcycle businesses from our AMA area.

Also, we are looking for a new logo design for Dist. 23. So brush up on your computer skills and submit some ideas. Design what you want and send it to us to view. The key things to keep in mind are--1.Use the state of Minn., in either written or logo form. 2.Use Dist.23, written or logo. 3.Use common sense. These logos have to be easy to duplicate for use on apparel, hats, stickers, and jackets. So don't be scared to dig in and come up with good designs. But they may need to be embroidered on something.

Another thing, I want to encourage you to keep the championship rules in the back of your mind. If you've got some ideas for changes send them in. This could be a very big year for changes coming up. This is for you, the riders and future members. These changes will be made in the fall, not winter. So "times a waist'n"...

Now, here's a couple of tips for you. This one is courtesy of RBP …

"In cool weather or sand increase your octane levels in your fuel. Make sure you have enough to meet the heavy demands under those conditions. Bikes detonate much more under those loads."

This tip is from me… Go to Microsoft and download their free version of Motocross Madness. It will give you lots of free racing practice, and computer practice on those cold, rainy days. The URL address is www.microsoft.com/games/motocross. It's worth the download and a $10 joystick. This game is for anyone who enjoys any type of off road riding.

Be proud, our website is one of the most useful and informative sights around when it comes to Minn.motorcycle issues. Thanks to volunteers like Roger Grill, our webmaster, and our Board of Directors. These people work hard for us.

So to the oldtimers I say, "Welcome back!" To the new members, "Welcome aboard!"

Feel free to send your comments to chip@visi.com . Stick around for another 30 years!!
